Maine Raw and Organic foods

Since we spend about 5 months of our year in Maine I thought I should include some of the organic and raw food sources we have located here...

For organic foods Hannafords Markets have come a long way.... we happen to be in the Old Orchard Beach area... and the Saco and Biddeford Hannafords both have a really nice Natures Market Place section with bulk foods and a decent selection of produce.
Also in Saco and Biddeford are Shaws Markets with their Natures Harvest Marketplace....
I don't like to give props to Wally World, but on our travels it has become necessary to utilize them to procure organic veggies and fruits... Super Wally Worlds obviously.... they have Newmans own and cascadia farms as well as a few others.... we will only purchase USA grown organic foods, and many places carry stuff grown in Peru, Chili and many other countries.... if anyone knows of the organic "codes" in foreign countries I would be interested in learning about their standards.... but until then I will stick to the stuff grown right here!!

Just North of us in Portland we have an AMAZING Whole Foods store, and a Wild Oats (apparently they will be merging soon... I assume one of them will go and it won't be whole foods!!)
For organic treats (not raw) there is Maples.. a small ice creamery, which has amazing flavors of Sorbettis and Gelatos.... as well as baked goods (I hear... never been there though)

Wolf Pine Farm is an organic CSA farm which runs about 20 weeks and supplies some 250 families with organic produce shares....

Diversity Farms in Troy Maine has organic beef, chicken, pork, cheese and eggs.... they are also going to be working with schools offering farm field trips to teach kids about what it takes to bring something like a pizza to your table (taking them through the wheat cutting/harvesting/drying/milling, milking cows for cheese production, tomatoes for the sauce.... and the end result... an organic pizza party!!)

Post Family Farm sells organic raw milks.

And this is the time of year when we can visit the Common Ground Fair in Unity Maine, this year it will be held from September 21st through the 23rd... they have all organic farmers who show and sell their goods... we have never been before so after we attend we will post about it!!

I have heard rumor of an organic pick your own blueberry farm near Alfred Maine... if anyone has any specific about this I would appreciate it!!
Wolf Pine Farm sells organic blueberries... as well, I will have to get the info on where they come from!
There are a BUNCH of organic farms here in Maine and a few farmers markets... one in Portland and one in Saco....

South of us in Kittery there is a raw food potluck that happens the third Saturday of every month.... we have been and it is AMAZING!! The proprietor Amy, has an inside track with David Wolfe and carries many of his products for sale.
Organic apples are now available from Raven Hill Orchard in Waterboro, this is their first year in business!! Lets show them our support!!

In Scarborough we have Lois Natural foods... right on Rt 1. They have a full grocery as well as a health and beauty aids section with supplements and the likes....
A good sized bulk section, bulk olive oils and many fresh organic veggies and fruits!!
